Ice Angel Air Boat

One of the most unusual craft in  the Water Patrol fleet is the Ice Angel Air Boat. It is used to assist deputies with rescues in dangerous ice conditions or in areas where traditional propeller driven watercraft may not be suitable.

The Ice Angel is a flat bottom boat powered by a 502 cubic inch engine, which drives an airplane propeller. The boat is steered with a series of vanes, much like the rubber of an airplane

This drive system allows the Ice Angel to travel over the ice or snow and through the water. The rescuers arrive on scene safely and rested.

The Ice Angel can reach speeds of of more than 70 MPH on ice and 45 MPH on water.

Operating the the Ice Angel takes a lot of practice, because it has no brakes and no reverse.
